Production Company: Sustain Video and BBC Philharmonic
Ten fairy-tales and traditional stories from around the world brought to life using the power of music.
Using live action and animation alongside original compositions, stories are narrated by a host stars including; Nihal Arthanayake, Jan Blake, Molly Rainford, and Sean Chandler, a DeaF trumpeter who presents one episode and play on another. The films feature musicians from the BBC Philharmonic and an array of guest performers.
Having worked on Sustain Video on The Gingerbread Man we were delighted to be asked by company director and series producer Sam Roberts to work on the full series. The show would be the first time an orchestra has ever been commissioned to make a series of films for network television.
We provided a full technical service to the production, including a mix of in-house and freelance crew of camera operators, assistants, jib operators, sound recordists, gaffers and sparks who were all booked and managed by us. Technical facilities included our cinematic multi-cam flyback solution using Sony FX9 cameras and Canon CN7 and CN10 lenses, gallery, return vision, as well as talkback and sound. We also provided a full lighting package to all episodes.
The series is available on BBC iPlayer from 28th November 2023.
